As a Torlak shipyard member, I know that the nature of ship building is dependent upon steel industry, engine production industry, electronic industry which are in turn requires the most solid and strong technological support. Because of this need, in 2007 we modernized our entire technological infrastructure to be the most “up-to-date” shipyard in the area. From the beginning of modernization, our aim was to come to a point that our designs, servers, and even softwares could be produced within the company’s IT Department which are the first step of ERP Systems. Not only in company’s headquarter, but, the whole work facility areas enjoyed the benefits of our new, fast and reliable technology.

One another important issue we have been concerning most in last couple of months is health and safety. I especially, would like to acknowledge the ceaseless work of Memduh Gulsun, who is in charge of personnel’s health and safety, in his effort to make our company passing one of the most important tests of Ministry of Social and Labour with 99% success.

This actually proves the success of management in providing the best working environment for employees and our passion to work as a unit. Furthermore, in order to increase the workers knowledge about health and safety we have held high number of seminars about working environment, how to prevent a damage and what to do in case of an injury. Face to face surveys at the end of every single meeting also was the evidence for increased awareness of this most important fact just like in all heavy industries.

The final matter I would like to talk about is the credit crunch which started in USA and spread through world in late 2008, in a very short time. Our strong financial relations and excellent feedback with the major European banks still provide us the finance, if required, to carry on building ships without cutting speed.
